HP ENVY x360 - 15-u111dx (ENERGY STAR)

I have had this laptop for a while. I'm running windows 10 on it, and I've been having trouble connecting to wifi. By which I mean if there isn't an ethernet cable to plug it directly into the router, it does not even attempt to find a wifi source or connect to the internet via any other means. It simply refuses to find those means.

At first I believed it to be a setting issue--maybe I messed with the wrong setting and it broke the logic chain somewhere. But recently I've begun wondering if it's a hardware problem of some sort, (due to the age of the product.)

Is there anyone who can tell me why I don't have a wireless connection, or even an option to connect?
