We also have this issue with USB - C Cable plugged in to a Phillips B line monitior connect to Ethernet on the following Laptops Probook 450 G8, Probook 440 G8 and Elitebook 850 G8 we have a lenovo that has no issues what so ever.
I have updated the laptops to the latest BIOS via the BIOS update option i have changed the network adapter settings as previously mentioned on this post and we are still experiencing network drops.
Please can you investigate as a matter of urgency

We have the same problem with the ProBook 450 G8 in our company. Tested on 5 different laptops and 5 different docks, no luck. Even with all the driver/firmware updates and the given solution.
We also have G6's and G7's, but we discovered no issues on those two models .

This looks like it is an issue between the Realtek Network controller and the Thunderbolt USB on G8 models of HP.
We had this issue resolved by HP in the past by a BIOS / Firmware update for our HP Elitebook 840 G5 & 6's seems as though they have applied the fix for the G7's however not applied it to the G8's as we are in the same boat.

We found that rolling the laptops BIOS back a version is working for elitebooks 01.01.32 is working better and for the probooks version 01.03.01 works better with not network drops
