We are having the exact same issue.

Our conclusions so far:

  • G7 and G8 laptops
  • starting on W10 2004
  • occurs with at least the following docks or network adapters
    • dell wd15 (realtek)
    • hp usb-c g5 (realtek)
    • dell and hp usb-ethernet adapters (realtek)
    • i-tec usb-ethernet adapter with "axis" chip. This was surprising as I supposed the issues were limited to realtek. On the other hand, all usb ethernet adapters might be victim of an overzealous windows shutting it down so perhaps it's not surprising at all.

I'll be testing the energy configuration ("idle power saving") now on the affected computers.

It seems this issue was fixed with firmware: 1.0.14.0

Version: 1.0.14.0
Revision: A

Otherwise, the support page for the HP USB-C Dock G5 includes the firmware download:

I hope it helps.

We are having good results with disabling Energy Efficient Ethernet and idle power save on all usb ethernet adapters. The firmware update for this dock does not seem to fix it completely. Besides, the issues were not limited to the HP G5 dock.

HP Recommended

@BrechtM Did you try the firmware update at all to see if that fixed it before adjusting the energy efficient setting?

HP Recommended

Actually I can't say for sure but as the update dates back to august of 21 I do think the issue presented itself with the new firmware too.

As the issue (short network interruptions) occured with other docks or usb-ethernet converters as well I didn't see a firmware update for this particular dock model as a solution to all the issues we were having. The energy efficient settings do seem to "fix" those.

Im not 100% sure but I think with

- latest BIOS Update on the Probook 650 G8

AND

- latest Firmwareupdate on the USB-C G5 Dockingstation

AND

-the two Driversettings (disabled "Idle Power Saving" and "Selective suspend")

it works!

We tested only the combination Probook 650 G8 and USB-C G5 Dock.

This in combination with  changing the Sleep setting to "Never" while plugged in has resolved my issues.

Hello,

we've been struggling with this Problem already 1 year!!! We are using a HP Probook 450 G8 with the USB-C G2 Dock (we had the same Problems with the G5 Dock).

We have tested the G2, G5 Dock with several other HP Probook's (e.g. 450 G7) even with some Lenovo Notebooks and we couldn't reproduce the same connectivity issue.

Also we have tested the HP Probook 450 G8 with some Delock USB 3.0 Port Replikator and the Problem was gone.

Further more we are using in our company 802.1x. If we use some „normal“ LAN’s without 802.1x the Problem is disappearing. Our 802.1x is definitely fine as we are using the G2 Dock with some HP 450 G7 or even older Notebooks!

I've had some heatead exchanges with their “first level Support”, but they could not help me. Even their “Mentor” wasn’t able to solve the Problem (an example of the chat: try this update and this update, …have you tried to reboot your computer)

We have tried to disable the Powersave and all the other energy saving options, but the result was only a little bit better (the Problem is still there!).

In conclusion…it’s a Problem with the HP Probook 450 G8 and the energy saving options in relation with 802.1x. This Model couldn’t find back in our Network after some idle time (depending on the time settings).

Maybe there is some other IT Pro out there and still facing the challenge and want to put some pressure on HP…

Kind regards

Nope NoGo, we have a number of them G5 docks, but on none of them the Lan connection is working and we are convicted to USE WiFi.... which we don't want.

So far the standard things like cabling direct to laptop connection working are confirmed working. Software has  been updated , That is , Bios and drivers (Including docking drivers, but nothing seems to solve the problem.

This topic is about issues with intermittent disconnects. Your issue is the network connections not working at all? Seems to be a different problem.

HP Recommended

I'm experiencing the same issue on both a Caldigit USB-C Pro Dock and HP USB-C dock G5.

Has anyone had a look at their event viewer for Event ID 15500 in Applications and Services Logs-Microsoft-Windows-Wired-AutoConfig/Operational? I mostly work via wifi but in the rare cases I work on LAN I get intermittent disconnects. Noticed the logs below happening randomly even while working on wifi with no ethernet cable connected at all.

I just turned off Idle Power Saving to see if it stops these disconnects. Will try turning off Energy-Efficient Ethernet too if the disconnects persist.

@BrechtM on your G8 where it seems fixed, do these logs appear randomly for you or not? I'm wondering whether this could be a good indication that the issue is fixed or not.  HP should be paying us for doing their work...
