Hi, I would like to upgrade my wireless card to a dual band wifi card. How can I find a compatible wifi 6 card for my laptop? I have never replaced a component in my laptop before but an comfortable opening it up. I just want to make sure I order the right part and that it is compatiable with my BIOS. I read something about some HP's having whitelists but I don't know exactly how to check that. Any help is appreicated.

Thanks

You're very welcome.

It should, but you would need to get one that has the HMC form factor, and I think most of the Intel 7265 cards have the M.2 form factor.

Hi:

HP does not provide any information on which model notebooks have whitelists.

Generally most notebooks made after 2013 do not have whitelists but there are a few exceptions, and I don't know if yours is one of them.

Open up the notebook and let me know how many wifi antenna cables are connected to the wifi card in there now.

Your notebook uses a Half Mini Card (HMC) form factor, which requires two antenna cables for a better wifi card to work properly.

There are no name brand Wifi 6 HMC form factor cards, but if your notebook has two antenna wires connected to the card in there now, you can most likely upgrade to a dual band AC card (Wifi 5).

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the wifi card removal and replacement procedure.

Currently the laptop has two antennas connected to the wifi card.

Can I connect any HMC wifi 5 card or does it have to be a specific model?

Thanks!

Hi:

If your notebook has an Intel core processor, get this model...

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001

You should be able to find the card on eBay.   Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

Here is a discussion where, if you can find that off brand HMC form factor AX200 (wifi 6) card, that may work for you too.

First of all thank you for everything.

Would the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 also be compatible?

Finally, I have been searching about unbranded HMC Wifi 6 Card and bought one.

I will post the experience in the other thread.
