Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an old hp pavillion with:

Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi and 2070 Bluetooth 2.1+EDR Combo adapter (BT3.0+HS ready)

Wifi is OK but on 2nd floor of my house, the laptop's wifi connection is very slow. With my other (newer) latop, wifi connection is OK.

Is there a way to replace the current wifi card to boost the signal? Will I loose bluetooth if I do that?

I would also be interested to upgrade the bluetooth module.

I'm the Riddle_Decipher & I'm writing on behalf of my colleague @DavidSMP, as the tech is out for the day,

that said, I have reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:

Wise choice, its way easier and cheaper to simply get the USB wireless (2x2) dongle and use it instead of replacing internal components, and to answer your question, no you don't have to disable or deactivate the wireless card, also, about the processor, I'm afraid HP neither supports nor recommends upgrading the processors of the device.

I hope that answers your query,

@berom,

Good day. Thank you for being a part of the Hp community. I will be happy to assist. Brilliant description of the issue. Kudos to you for that.

Other suggestions that can be tried:

  • Use a USB wifi dongle or wireless adapter and connect it to one of the USB ports of the computer to go online.
  • Order a USB Bluetooth adapter and connect it to one of the USB ports to get Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Or you could install a new wireless card and use an external USB Bluetooth adapter or dongle.
  • This should fix the issue.
  • These are great workarounds and are extremely cost effective.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Thanks  David,

As the network card is working fine when closer to the wifi router, I think it's best to add a usb wifi dongle.
Would I need to de-activate the internal wifi card in this case?

Also,  my computer is using a I3 processor.
Is it possible to replace it with I5 or I7 listed in the HP spare parts?
