Solved!

WIFI Drivers

HP Recommended
HP laptop 15s-fq1053TUNBKSLV
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just set up my new Technicolor Modem (2G & 5G).  The 2G system is working,  however it appears my model Laptop does not have the driver for 5G - the 5G WIFI does not appear on my list of available WIFI options.  Is there a Driver download that can fix this issue.  Note:  5 G is available in my area and the Modem is showing lights for both 2G & 5G.  Regards Kevin

Hi, Kevin:

The product specs for your notebook indicate that it comes with a single band wifi card that only works on the 2.4 GHz wifi band.

Probably the Realtek RTL8723DE b/g/n wifi adapter.

You would need to replace that card with the Realtek RTL8821CE 1 x 1 dual band AC card for your notebook to connect to the 5.0 GHz wifi band.

Paul - Thank you.  Is this something I can download or do I need to see a HP person to have the card fitted.  My IT knowledge is about 4/10.  Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

You're very welcome.

You need to physically replace the wifi hardware.

I recommend you do the work yourself, or take it to a local PC repair shop because I would imagine HP will charge you nearly as much as you paid for the notebook to replace the wifi card.

This is the one you need...

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

You can find this model on eBay, or Ali Express.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=L17365-005&_sacat=0&_sop=15

The card has the same throughput as the RTL8723DE card on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, it has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.

The problem is I can't find a service manual for your model notebook.

The one on the support page is for a totally different model series.

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/hp-15s-fq1000-laptop-pc-series/29322771/manuals

Your other option would be to purchase a USB dual band wifi adapter.
