I can connect to my WIFI router but get a message that says no internet.  I have tried updating Windows11, drivers for my Realtek wireless Wan/Lan, bios, and anything else I can think of.  All of my other internet devices work just fine and I can run my laptop from the hotspot on my phone without a problem too except I am out of high-speed data for the month.  I have rebooted my router and laptop multiple times and have run a hardware health check that said the network device is working fine.  I am not sure where to go from here.  Any help would be appreciated.

@GWPackerBacker, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

The HP laptop is connected to the Wi-Fi network but shows “No Internet” status. This typically indicates that the laptop is successfully associating with the router but cannot reach external internet servers.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Confirm IP Address and Gateway

  1. Press Windows + R, type cmd, and press Enter.
  2. In Command Prompt, type:ipconfig /all
  3. Check:
    • IPv4 Address: Should be something like 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x
    • Default Gateway: Should match your router’s IP (e.g., 192.168.1.1)

If the IP address starts with 169.254.x.x, it means the laptop failed to get an IP from the router.

Step 2: Reset Network Stack

Run these commands in Command Prompt (as Administrator):

Then restart your laptop.

Step 3: Disable Power Saving for Wi-Fi Adapter

  1. Open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc)
  2. Expand Network adapters > Right-click your Realtek Wireless LAN > Properties
  3. Go to Power Management tab
  4. Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”

Step 4: Manually Set DNS

  1. Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center
  2. Click Change adapter settings
  3. Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter > Properties
  4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Properties
  5. Set DNS manually:
    • Preferred: 8.8.8.8
    • Alternate: 1.1.1.1

Step 5: Check Router Settings

Since other devices work fine, try:

  • Logging into your router admin page (usually 192.168.1.1)
  • Check if MAC filtering or Access Control is enabled and blocking your laptop
  • Ensure DHCP is enabled

Step 6: Update Wireless Driver from HP

Even if you’ve updated drivers, try downloading the latest directly from HP:

  • Go to Official HP® Support
  • Enter your laptop model
  • Download the latest Realtek Wireless LAN driver for Windows 11

Step 7: Try Safe Mode with Networking

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking:

  1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig
  2. Go to Boot tab > Check Safe boot + Network
  3. Restart and test Wi-Fi

If it works in Safe Mode, a third-party app or firewall might be interfering.

Step 8: Create a New Network Profile

  1. Forget the Wi-Fi network:
    • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks
    • Select your network > Forget
  2. Reconnect and re-enter password

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
