My WLAN card stop working suddenly. The WiFi light stays orange (WiFi off) despite pressing the on/off key. I have had a look inside the laptop to check that the card is seated properly and the antennas are attached. Everything looks good though I noticed that the WLAN card is incredibly hot, too hot to touch and to the point where it is turning the white sticker slightly brown. So the card is connected and drawing power, despite it showing as "off" on my keyboard. According to my system there is no WLAN card present at all.
I know that this should not get so hot. It's probable that the card has become damaged by the extreme heat.
I guess my question is whether it is likely to be a problem with that particular card or is the motherboard sending too much power to it?
If I get a replacement card will that one burn out too?
Can anybody advise me on this?
And also how do I find the product name and code for a compatible replacement WLAN card for this laptop?
Many thanks afor any help given.

Thanks for the list of suitable adapters.
In answer to the cooling fan and ducting. The cooling system on the laptop is clean, clear and working fine. The actual laptop does not get hot, only mildly warm, except for the WLAN card. When I turn the laptop on, the card will go from cold to extremely hot with about 30 seconds, and I mean hot enough to burn fingers, way hotter than a CPU for example. If I had to guess I would say in excess of 80°C. Considering it's not actually receiving data it's awefully hot.
That's why I was wondering if the WLAN card was at fault or if the motherboard is burning it out.
Cheers.
