I would like to upgrade my WiFi card to one having 5g capabilities. How do I go about finding a card that is a compatible upgrade? Is there a link with white list names or can you provide a list of cards that will work? My laptop has two terminal wires connected to two nipples on the card, so I believe it can accept an upgrade card.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi:
Is this your model?
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03749727
If so, your PC does not have a BIOS whitelist, and since your PC has two antenna cables connected to the wifi card in there now, this would be the best card you can upgrade to, as it has an AMD processor and chipset.
Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo HP Part # 724935-001
The card is readily available on Amazon or eBay.
Do your search by the HP Part number, not the model of the wifi card.

Hi,
Yes, this appears to be my system. The current installed card for wireless Connectivity is supposedly 1x1 802.11b/g/n WLAN. This is not a/b/g/n for 5 GHz speed. Why wouldn’t I be able to get a card for 5GHz? The current card only supports 2.4GHz.
My WiFi network settings will not show the 5GHz connection because the current installed card is not 5GHz capable. I would like a card capable of 5GHz speed.
Is the card you proposed an upgrade with 5GHz capability? I couldn’t tell by the response you posted. If so, thank you and I’ll explore buying on Amazon. If not, please provide a card upgrade with 5GHz capability.
Thank you.

You're very welcome.
The card I recommended works on both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz wifi bands.
If you only have a dual band wifi N router, the card will have a maximum throughput of 300 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.
If you have an AC router, then the wifi card will have a maximum throughput of 867 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.
If you would prefer to only have a dual band wifi N card, then you can go for this model, which on eBay will be very inexpensive.
Broadcom BCM943228HMB 802.11abgn 2×2 Wi-Fi Adapter, Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter HP part # 730668-001.
But I recommend you install the best card you can, which is the first one I posted.
