What is the compatible dual band wifi adapter for Broadcom BCM43142 802.11bgn HP Envy notebook

Hi,

My computer : HP Envy 13d000nt

Wifi adapter card : Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn Wi-fi M2

My problem is that, my wifi adapter does not see 5 Ghz signals coming from host, see only 2.4 Ghz.  I think, my wifi card supports only single band.  So,  I want to change my wifi adapter with a compatible adapter which supports Dual band (2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz). Is there any recommendation ?

Hi:

Normally on the models with the M.2 single band wifi adapters such as yours, there is only one antenna cable which rules out upgrading to dual band wifi cards except this one.

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

The only place I have been able to find this model is on eBay.

The card has the same throughput as the BCM43142 on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, it has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.

On a dual band wireless N router, it would have a maximum throughput of 150 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.

Now, if you want to open up the PC first before buying a wifi card, if it has two antenna cables connected to the Broadcom card, you should be able to  upgrade to this model instead...You must get the non-VPro model.

One more question, do you recommend using external usb wifi adapter instead of replacing internal adapter. Is there any negatives for external adapters ?

You're very welcome.

Unless you have a major issue with something sticking out of the USB port, or you don't have enough free USB ports, using an external USB wifi adapter is the easiest thing to do.

They make some nowadays that hardly stick out of the USB port.

Ones like this have 433 MBPS max throughput.
