Does anyone know a good replacement for the Atheros ar9485 802.11 b/g/n WiFi module?  The current module works, but is so slow.  I would like to replace it with something that will function faster.  Thank you.

@2riders

Your machine was built around late 2013-early 2014 therefore you may not be able to swap to newer adapter. It has to use a list on page 49 of the manual and all of them are slow anyway.

You can use option USB adapter such as

There are many around and cheaper too

Hi, @2riders

If there are two wifi antenna wires connected to the existing wifi card in there now, you can upgrade to either one of these cards...

Dual band AC:   Max throughput is 867 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band

Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo  HP part # 724935-001

Dual band N:  Max throughput is 300 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band,

Broadcom BCM943228HMB 802.11 a/b/g/n 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo   HP part # 730668-001

You should be able to find either of these cards on eBay.

Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the wifi card removal and replacement procedure.
