HP Stream 11 ah117wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

September 5, 2019

Dear HP Forum

I need to get a working WIFI wireless driver for my HP ah117wm notebook. I installed Windows 10 - 64 bit. But there is NO wifi driver shown in the Device Manager (Network Adapters) section.

Any help is appreciated. Email me at [edit]

You're notebook has a Realtek wifi card, so installing the Intel 7265 driver is going to do nothing.

You would need to physically remove the internal Realtek wifi card and replace it with the 7265.

I can tell you that if you want to do that, it is possible, but it is difficult to open the notebook, and hard to remove the antenna cables from the wifi card without breaking the terminals off the wifi card, and having them get stuck inside the antenna connector cups.

You would also need this service manual, as your notebook is not EOL.

The part number for the Intel 7265 wifi card can be found in chapter 3 of the above manual.

Hi:

Below is the link to the parts list for your notebook.

http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=4ND15UA

It has the WLAN RT CARTIER AC 2X2 wifi adapter (RTL8822BE).

Here is the latest driver for that model wifi adapter...

I downloaded the WIFI link that you provided. Installed the driver. But it does not show any where in DEVICE MANAGER.

I only get an AIRPLANE icon only. No WIFI option. Maybe my HP Stream 11-ah117wm might be defective or missing the WIFI hardware. I do not know. Windows 10 - 64 BIT installed just fine while PRESSING F11. I do not know what else to do.

I did look at the parts list you provided. Thank You for your help. It is much appreciated.

Phil,

When I connect my cell phone to the USB port on the HP 11-ah117wm. I can access the internet just fine through Tethering & portable hotspot on my Android phone. But when disconnected. No WIFI icon or access what so ever.

I would like to use this Notebook without connecting any cell phone to it. Do you think that maybe I can buy an USB wifi device that looks like usb flash drive into a USB port on my HP Stream 11 ah117wm ?

Hi:

I agree with you that there is probably a hardware issue with the internal wifi card.

You could buy an external usb wifi adapter and use that, or if your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP technical support and submit a support case to have the wifi card replaced under warranty.

In Canada/USA, the toll free support number is: 1 (866) 724-8600

They do make some small USB wifi adapters called nano adapters, that hardly stick out of the USB port.

Phil, I still have a WARRANTY on my HP Stream. It expires in 3 months. I will contact HP Support first and see what I can do. If it is going to cost me alot of money to fix this HP Notebook. I would rather spend money on getting USB Nana wifi Adapters instead. Will these USB Nana adapters work. Yes, either of those should be fine.

If the PC is still under warranty, you shouldn't have to pay anything to get it fixed, but you will have to send it into HP for repairs which may take a while.

Paul,
I found this to share with you and other HP Stream 11 notebook owners. A disassemble step by step pictorial guide. Maybe I can find the WIFI driver for the Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7265 card. Model Number 7265NGW

Paul,

I have not disassembled my HP Stream 11-ah117wm yet. I do not know what kind of WIFI card I have. I installed WINDOWS 10 - 64 BIT using the Media Creation Tool 1903.exe from the Microsoft website on the HP Stream. Downloaded it and installed it onto a LEXAR 8 GB USB flash drive. Then installed the OS onto the HP Stream. But it shows no WIFI driver in the DEVICE MANAGER section.
