I had Spectrum come out and test the modem and router signals and everything was good.  Recently, automatic updates installed an update to my laptop and now my wifi speed is faster than my wired ethernet speed. I'm only getting about 24mbps download with ethernet cable whereas before I was getting 94mbps. When I use a USB ethernet adapter to plug in my ethernet cable the speed increases to about 70mbps. How can I fix this problem?

I rolled back the driver to a previous version and that did not help. I updated it back to the current version and that did not work either.

@jfleischman

The following link shows specs of your computer

    https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04216141

It ONLY has  10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector) , that may explain why. 1Gig network card will be faster. I'm using the following adapter on one of my machines which does not have RJ-45 port at all.

It gives me two more USB 3.0 ports.

@banhien I understand my network card can only achieve speeds up to 100mbps, but just 3 days ago and before I was able to achieve download speeds of 90-96mbps hard-wired to the router. Now I'm getting less than a third of that. Is there a settings issue that is causing this lack of speed? My wired connection has always been faster than wireless.
