@Trouts5301

This is a hardware issue. I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer.

Have a great day!

I have  a HP Laptop 17-by0xxx.  Just like the previous poster, the WiFi problem started after updating. I know one of the updates was Real wireless driver.

@dbcal,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Have you tried all the steps suggested in the thread?

Did you run a test on the wireless card?

Look forward to hearing from you and you have a great day!

Take care.

Cheers!

Yes. I followed instructions to do a components check and no issue was found.  Did it twice and passed both times.

Try restoring the computer -

1. Save any open files and close all open programs.
2. In Windows, search for restore, and then open Create a restore point from the results list.
3. On the System Protection tab, click System Restore.
4. Click Next.
5. Click the Restore Point that you want to use, then click Next.
6. Click Finish to restore your computer to a previous point.
7. Do not interrupt System Restore when it starts. This can corrupt your hard drive and create more problems.
8. Click Yes in the warning that appears.
9. System Restore returns the computer configuration to a previous point in time and restarts.

That didn't work. As soon as I closed the lid, WiFi turned off. Only turns on after reboot. Very frustrating.

Back-up the data and try re-installing the operating system -

1. Shutdown the computer.
2. Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3. Press F11 once for System Recovery.
4. Choose the Keyboard Layout.
5. Click on Troubleshoot.
6. Go to Recovery Manager and click on System Recovery.
Note : Back-up all your data as System Recovery will delete everything that you had saved or installed on the computer.

Let me know.

Hi Asmita,

What I ended up doing to fix my problem was buying and installing a USB Wi-Fi adapter. So far, so good. The Wi-Fi stays on when the laptop goes to sleep or when the screen is closed but most importantly when the laptop is shut down and restarted later.

What is still irritating is the fact that this all began after HP Support Assistant had 3 updates. One of those updates caused this problem. It is more evident since @dbcal  has the same model as I and his issue started with a update.
