Pavilion 15eg1
Microsoft Windows 11

I have just purchased two 2021 variations of this HP laptop. (15eg-1053cl most recently).  Both have the same wi-fi connectivity problem, and both use the MediaTek MT7921 driver with the latest driver. (3.0.1.1167 on this laptop). The laptop comes with W11 Home installed.

The Wi-Fi typically initially connects with no problem.  However, after a few restarts which are required when initially setting up a device, they stop connecting.  Error msg states "cannot connect to this network".  Trien turning off Bluetooth, no difference.

I will end up returning this one too if someone can't help me find a simple fix. In Googling the MediaTek driver, I realize there are a lot of issue surrounding this wi-fi adapter.

Thank you for any assistance.

Hi@DavidH007,

Thanks for engaging in the HP support community! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand that you need assistance with the wireless connection dropping randomly on your notebook. I’ll be glad to assist you with this.

We need to isolate it to being hardware or software related first.

For better clarity, I would require more information regarding this.

  • When did this first begin?
  • Did it happen after a software or windows update?
  • Have you tried to run any test on the wireless card from F2?

Please try these steps first.

1. Open CMD with Administrator

2. Type:  sc config storsvc type= own

( this resets this service to its default state )

3. Restart the PC.

4. Check if this fixes it.

I recommend you try to follow the below steps:

Go to Device manager > select the WIFI drivers under network adapter> Right click go to properties  > Under properties go to Power Management Tab> Uncheck  "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

If it does not, please visit this link for further support: HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 10)

If not check this link out: Common fixes for wireless connectivity issues.

The next thing, I would suggest here is to uninstall the wireless drivers from the device manager:

Right-Click on the start button> click device manager> Network adapters>then select the wireless drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the Wifi drivers.

Then restart the computer and check if you are able to go online.

Finally, please update the bios, chipset, and wifi drivers from this link: http://hp.com/drivers Please select the country and follow the on-screen instructions.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer to this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Thank you so kindly for your reply.  However, after trying two new, slightly different Pavilian laptops, both exhibiting the same type of failure with the MediaTek MT7921 Wi-Fi adapter, I returned them both.  I found a suitable new laptop using an Intel AX201 Wi-Fi adapter.  It is solid, with no anomalies.

Many Thanks!

Hi@DavidH007,

`We have done the basic troubleshooting as per the document and the notebook needs to be checked taking remote access so that get to know it's a hardware or software issue.

I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer or HP Chat Support Team.

After an hour with hp tech support I was told that I would have to do a factory (same hp answer in 1998) so I told them I would do a backup and call them back.

Then I started reading mediatek wifi issues found this post and at first I had my doubts but fix this hp laptop same as laptop in discussion below is the post that fixed this problem.

"Hi. I've had this problem with my –– , same model. Remove everything plugged in, including AC; Press the power button for 60s ( yes the whole 60 seconds ), after that try to turn on the laptop again. This forces a reset in wifi and Bluetooth card. And worked for me. Let me know if it worked"

JBA21,

Thank you for the consideration of your reply.  I too stumbled on to the 60 sec power button depression to reset the network adapters.  And it worked, until it didn't.  The problem reoccurred after a few reboots for me.  That is not acceptable for a brand-new laptop, imho.

I wish you success and am sure there is, or will be, a permanent solution.

But for me, with Costco's return policy, I got out while the getting was good.

Regards!
