The most tedious support process I have ever encountered! Never answer the phone and far too many steps taking you away from getting direct assistance.
Problem: A year old HP PC that suddenly does not connect to the Internet, though the common WiFi works well re my work PC (not HP).
So, where can I get some answers from?

Hi @SlowServiceCont,
Thank you for your response,
If your HP Pavilion Laptop 14 is showing that it has a Wi-Fi connection but you are unable to access the internet, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.
Check the Wi-Fi Signal Strength:
- Ensure that your laptop is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
- Check the Wi-Fi signal strength. If it's weak, move closer to the router to improve the signal.
Restart Your Router:
- Sometimes, the router may have connectivity issues. Try unplugging your router, waiting for about 10 seconds, and then plugging it back in. This can often resolve minor connectivity problems.
Restart Your Laptop:
- Restarting your laptop can also help refresh network settings and resolve minor issues.
Check for Airplane Mode:
- Make sure your laptop is not in Airplane Mode, as this can disable all wireless connections, including Wi-Fi.
Disable and Re-enable Wi-Fi:
- Go to your laptop's network settings and disable Wi-Fi, then re-enable it to see if that restores the internet connection.
Check for IP Address:
- Ensure that your laptop has obtained an IP address from the router. You can check this in your network settings.
Forget and Reconnect to the Wi-Fi Network:
- In your network settings, forget the Wi-Fi network you are trying to connect to and then reconnect by entering the Wi-Fi password.
Update Wi-Fi Drivers:
- Outdated or corrupted Wi-Fi drivers can cause connectivity issues. Go to the HP website and check for driver updates for your laptop's Wi-Fi adapter.
Firewall and Security Software:
- Sometimes, security software or firewalls can block internet access. Check your security software settings to ensure they are not causing the issue.
DNS Settings:
- Try changing your DNS server settings to a public DNS server like Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1) to see if that helps.
Network Troubleshooter:
- Most operating systems have built-in network troubleshooters. Use these tools to diagnose and automatically resolve common network issues.
Check with Your Internet Service Provider (ISP):
- If none of the above steps work, it's possible that there may be an issue with your internet service. Contact your ISP to check if there are any outages or problems with your connection.
By following these troubleshooting steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with your HP Pavilion Laptop's internet connection.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
