Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

It has been happening for a few days now. Whenever I hibernate or shutdown, the WiFi adapter simply disappears. But the driver stays installed in the Control Panel. Earlier it used to get fixed on its own, but it isn't fixing itself anymore. I had also refreshed my pc to remove all Windows updates. I thought I had fixed it, but the problem is recurring again. I am attaching screenshots of both the Device Manager and Programs and Features windows. Please help.

Update: The WiFi is back up. On its own. I did some updates last night. Last time I did the same thing, and the WiFi didn't come back.

Edit 1: Its gone, even when I didn't restart. Yep, definitely a hardware problem. I am closing this thread as resolved. Thanks for your help.

Hi

 

In your POWER PLAN do you shut down the WiFi to prolong the battery life, or allow the WiFi to be turned off accordingly?

The thing is, as you can see in the Device Manager screenshot, the adapter has disappeared completely, so no way for me to open WiFi adapter settings.

It has become as if my pc doesn't even have the WiFi hardware. And this absence reflects in my dual booted Ubuntu Mate too.

Hi

 

try HIDDEN DEVICES in device manager.

getmac

ipconfig -all

A hardware failure will affect both OS's, but W10's inability to cope with an installed WiFi wont affect Mate.

 

If in doubt please ask.
