I'm thinking of upgrading the wireless card in my laptop to the Intel 8265.
I've seen various sellers selling it online, however I notice most of them warning that the card won't work with HP/Lenovo laptops.
Is this a whitelist issue, or is there something else I'm missing?

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I see from the post that you need assistance related to Wireless card. It’ll be a genuine pleasure to assist you with this.
After reviewing your post, I did go through the Product Specifications of your product and found that your PC is shipped with Intel® 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (1x1) Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® 4.2 Combo card.
Also, I did go through the Maintenance and Service guide of your notebook and found that there is a list of compatible and tested wireless card for your notebook.
Regarding the specifications of the wireless card, please click here:
Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265
Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265
You can go ahead and install as this should work, however, HP Doesn't recommend any upgrade/downgrade of any hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product. It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance. You can change the configuration at your own risk.
If you are not comfortable, I would personally suggest you consult a local Best Buy or Staples technician or any local tech to check if the dual band wireless card is supported by the computer. It should be supported although it has not been tested by HP.
The best option at your disposal is to go for a USB dual band wireless adapter and that is economical and cost effective. It does the trick for you and can be purchased online or locally for a song.
I have been honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind.
I hope this information helps. Let me know if you need any further assistance.
Let me know if those steps worked for you.
If they did, that’s awesome!
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Thank you for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums! I see from your post that you need information and assistance with Wifi card upgrade on your HP notebook. Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this.
After reviewing your post, I did go through the Product Specifications and found that it's been shipped with 802.11ac (2x2) and Bluetooth® 4.0 combo wireless card.
Here's the Maintenance and Service guide of your notebook - http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05356862
793840-005 WLAN Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.2 Combo Adapter (non vPRO) This is the part which is tested and compatible with your PC. However, if you wish you could try to purchase a compatible wireless card. HP Doesn't recommend any upgrade/downgrade of any hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product. It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance. You can change the configuration at your own risk.
I would suggest you follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP PCs - Slow Internet Troubleshooting (Windows 10, 😎
You could also try to uninstall the wireless card drivers from device manager.
Right-Click on start button> click device manager> Network adapters>then select the wireless drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the Wifi drivers.
Then restart the computer and check if you are able to go online.
If the issue persists, update the Bios, Chipset and wireless card drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.
If the issue still persists, a good workaround is to procure a wifi USB dongle and plug it to one of the USB ports. Then connect to the router with it. It is extremely cost effective and economical. You could get it for a song from a local Best Buy or Staples location or order one online at Amazon or Ebay.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than glad to help.
Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.
