I recently bought a new HP laptop and since owning it the WiFi does not automatically connect when the laptop is started or rebooted. I have to press disconnect and then press reconnect in the wifi options/settings. Once I have connected the wifi again everything seems fine.

When I shut down and start the laptop or reboot the laptop I get a yellow warning on the wifi icon stating there is a problem and it can not connect. Every other laptop, desktop, smartphone in the house is fine.

Surely the wifi should automatically connect without me having to keep disconnecting and reconnecting?

I have only had the laptop for two weeks.

Any ideas on how to find it?

Hi Paul_Tikkanen

Thank you for all your help.

I think i may have fixed the problem. After do some more searching around on the internet, i think i found the solution.

I have had to manually input the IP details for the laptop under the IPv4 section. This seems to have worked so far.

I will see how i get on.

Thanks

Paul

Hi:

What model wifi adapter does your notebook come with?

If you don't know, go to the device manager, click to expand the Network Adapters device manager category, and there you will find the name and model number of the wireless network adapter.

@paul_tikkanen

Under network adapters, there are two.

Realtek PCLe GbE Family Controller

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCLe Adapter

Hope this helps.

Thanks

You're very welcome.

The only suggestion I can offer, would be to update the wifi driver to the latest version HP has and see if that resolves the problem.

2024.0.8.107/2024.0.4.108      Jun 5, 2019

This package contains the DCHU driver installation package for the Realtek RTL8188EE, RTL8723BE, RTL8723DE, RTL8821CE, and RTL8822BE wireless LAN Controller in the supported notebook and desktop models running a supported Windows 10 or Windows 10 Cloud operating system.

Update the Bluetooth driver too...

Hi @Paul_Tikkanen

So after updating the drivers for the wifi and bluetooth, sadly the problem still persists. Every time the laptop is started whether that be from shutdown or reboot, the wifi will not connect automatically and shows a yellow warning on the wifi icon. Once I disconnected and reconnect the wifi is fine until I shutdown or reboot.

Any more suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Paul

Hi, Paul:

Sorry the updated drivers didn't work.

Unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions for you to try other than contacting HP technical support and seeing if there is anything they can do to help.

You should be able to use the HP support assistant program to contact HP technical support, or you can start at the link below...
