HP Pavilion 15-p100
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC (Model:  G6U21UA#ABA )

I spent already 10+ hours trying to fix this. After an automatic update the WIFI is off. Everything point to the hardware switch that is off but ... surprise surprise... this computer does not have either a hardware switch or F8/F10 key to turn it on. It has a button for the airplane mode (F12) but even when it is on the WI-FI option is still gray out and I cannot change it to on.

I tried the HP Assistent, to manually download and install the drivers and BIOS  from Intel and from HP :  http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-15-p100-Notebook-PC-series/7234915/model...

But so far nothing worked.

Some other screenshots:

There is a HP Wireless Button Driver and I reinstalled the driver 3 times (from Windows Updates Optional Updates, and 2 times downloading the driver from the HP Support site):

I was able to restore the wifi using window restore and go back before I did ithe update. Now though Window Update tells me that there are critical updates and I am afraid that if I run them, the wi-fi will be compromised again.

Ok. So far I run all the updates and it still works. It may be that the BIOS needed to be updated before the Windows 8.1 updates.

Hi there @Tom-HP

Thanks for joining in the HP Support Forums.

I read your posts and see that you were able to roll back before the update was done, so that you WiFi would work correctly. I gather from your posts that the issue at this point is resolved.

Is that correct?

Please let me know 🙂

Thanks
