The wifi speed of my newly bought victus 16- s0038ax is giving me problem, where the unit is using the mediatek MT7921 wifi 6 adapter. My home subscription is 600mbps, my other gadgets were all able to get 600mbps but not this victus laptop. When connected to wifi, even standing beside the router would only give me 470mbps+, but when I connected via lan cable, the speed is 600mbps. What is wrong with the unit?

Hi @Vincern ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand there might be a few potential issues causing the discrepancy in WiFi speed on your HP Victus 16-inch Gaming Laptop.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
- Update Drivers: Make sure that your WiFi drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause performance issues. You can usually find driver updates on the HP support website for your specific laptop model. Software and Drivers for Victus Gaming Laptop 16-s0038AX
- Router Settings: Check your router settings to ensure that it's optimized for maximum WiFi performance. This might include adjusting the channel bandwidth, enabling beamforming if available, or updating the router firmware.
- Interference: WiFi performance can be affected by interference from other electronic devices, neighboring networks, or physical obstructions. Try moving your laptop closer to the router and away from potential sources of interference like microwaves or cordless phones.
- Network Congestion: If you have many devices connected to your WiFi network simultaneously, it can affect the overall speed. Try disconnecting some devices or prioritizing traffic for your laptop in your router settings if possible.
- Signal Strength: Even though you're standing beside the router, the signal strength might not be optimal. You can try relocating the router to a more central location in your home or using WiFi range extenders to improve coverage.
- WiFi Adapter Settings: Check the settings of your WiFi adapter in Device Manager (on Windows) to ensure that it's configured correctly. Sometimes, power-saving settings or other configurations can impact performance.
- Hardware Issue: If none of the above solutions work, there might be a hardware issue with the WiFi adapter itself.

Hi Gaya1239,
Thanks for your recommendation, I have HP personnel attend the on site services, even though they have changed a new wifi card, but the problem still persist. The speed will capped at 480mbps (subscription plan is 600mbps, all other devices no issue getting this 600mbps.)
I have read through the forum and found out that the mediatek MT7921 seems like not a good wifi card and many has complaint about this particular wifi module. Can I know is there any alternative? As the download speed is capped and I couldn't get fast down on this laptop. This has caused me getting slower download speed than I should be expected.
