Yes, I would do that.

What I do is copy all the folders (downloads, music, favorites, pictures, documents, etc)  in my user profile to a portable hard drive.

I don't have a ton of files and it takes about 5 minutes.

Then I just copy the folders back to the new installation.

Yeah!!! I'm copying them to the usbflash drive. I dont have a portable drive. This is so much faster than copying to dvds...

Wowo impressed!!! I have an old seagate backup plus for win 7 but its still in the shrink wrrap...Donlt think from the instructions I read it was very useful.

I don't want to loose my photos. I really have limited back ups of them but it seems I have no more than 10 GB photos.

I'll get them on the patriot & the rest of the user files are not much.

Then just do recovery win 10 clean install?

Wow... it took me half a day to almost copy half a system image to dvd & the system froze twice last time I tried so I just refreshed. Seems it takes about a day to do a 90 GB system image on dvd??? Terrrible!!!!

These usb flash drives are amazing... Shame it took me so long to get one!!! its like a mini ssd...

128 GB has 115 GB usable... That's enough & it was $24.. Well worth it for how fast it is!!!

Wonder why it wont take a system image? No biggie as this one has been wonky anyway.

Yes, once you are happy with what you got do the recovery.

Get a portable USB hard drive.  I use 1 TB ones.

Then to create a system image I use the free Macrium Reflect software.

https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree

The software will have you create a bootable rescue DVD or flash drive that you boot from to access the system image stored on your portable hard drive.

You can make periodic updates to the image any time you feel the need.

Now I found my user profile but I already copied the files from it that I wanted...some like 3 d objects I left...Probably would have been easier to just copy that wholf folder but I copied from another window. Also copied the Swsetup. The rest of the program files etc will just have to be...reinstalled but I really dont have much. I took some realtek  AMD intel hp etc to be safe.

Used 73GB so have 40 GB left on flash drive.

I guess I'm safe now,,,oooh well...

I ave done a full reinstall of win on my elitebook 8460P...

So here goes nothing!!!! least I'm on the ethernet now as nbefore this laptop would not connect because of some nothing was safe security,,,

Wish me luck!!!!

Guess I donlt need a new system repair disk I have 3 or 4 for this win 10...

Bye!!!!
