The laptop connect to the local Wifi using the g-band. However the router (Linksys wrt610N) is capable of using the faster n-band. The laptop also claims this to be available as it has the intel 9560 ac network card. My older laptop uses the n-band fine.
Below the settings I get from the active wifi connection. Personal data deleted.
SSID: ****
Protocol: 802.11g
Beveiligingstype: WPA2-Personal
Netwerkband: 2,4 GHz
Netwerkkanaal: 1

How can I make it using the n-band?

Hi:
Wireless N is not a band.
N works on both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz wifi bands.
Your router is old, but the card should work on the 5.0 GHz wifi band at the 300 MBPS wireless N speed.
I would check your routers settings...make sure that both the 2.4 and 5.0 bands are enabled, and set the wifi to 'mixed' on both bands.
Review chapter 3 (Basic setup) of your router's user manual to make sure it is set to the recommended settings.

You may want to consider upgrading your router to an AC model.

Thanks Paul for your quick reaction.
As you notice, N protocol works on both bands. I have set up the router to have both 2.4 and 5,0 MHz bands being enabled, on mixed settings and both 20 and 40 MHz channel width. Although on the status page of the router it says 40 MHz is active. I have tried both 2.4 and 5.0 bands, no effect. I updated to the latests drivers, 21.0.0.5 and played a bit with the advanced settings under the device manager.
I realize that the router is not the newest, but that shouldn't be the issue, as my older laptop works on the n-protocol and is actually faster on the wifi. I assume there must be a setting on the laptop to force the network card to select the n-protocol.

You're very welcome.
Based on the settings you posted, the card should be working on both bands.
The card should not need any 'tweaking' in the advanced settings in the device manager.
I would take the notebook to a place with free wifi such as a coffee shop, and see if you can connect on both bands there.
If not, I would suggest there is a hardware issue with the card.
If it does, then the new model card is not compatible with your router.
