Pavillion DV6700
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

New 840 EVO SSD with new windows 7 x 32 which replaces Vista and the old HDD drive.

Everything runs well and connects every time upon boot up but windows update keeps running forever.

I used the Microsoft windows update fix but get this error every time, attached.

I have a normal home connection via wi fi and disabled it and tried using the cable connection and still same thing.

Other computers update fine.

No VPN, no proxy.

I really don't know what to think at the moment, any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi @thunderbird345,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook and Windows Update error code 0x8024402C. Thank you so much for posting the error message and other details, very very helpful. Here is a link that Microsoft posts to fix the Windows Update error code 0x8024402C.

Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues.

It recommends to disable any Antivirus software, while trying to do the updates.

You can also skip the update as you might have the updated software already installed on your Notebook.

Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the program on your Notebook and it will help with any software and driver updates on your system.

Please let me know how this goes.

Thanks.

Thank you for the reply.

I have just reloaded 7 on a new SSD and am in the process of checking for updates....I believe there will be about 194 at the minimum so will it be unusual for it to "checking for updates" for a few hours ?   It is an older sata 2 laptop core duo.

Thanks for the advice.

Edit

I am not expert but seem to be able to keep my machine going and updated and have been at it for a few years.....in this case originally I became impatient with the checking for updates and assumed the windows update needed repair and repair always failed. So I downloaded the updates, 194, thru simplix but they lag behind a little.

That copy of 7 works well but I would rather get the windows update working so I started all over again with the fresh reload of 7 sp1 on another new SSD I had..

It has been "checking for updates" now for 2 hours....it sort of looks like it might sit there and check forever unless I am simply being impatient....

going on 4 hrs now 😞

After 6 hours it downloaded the updates. Incredible.   Thanks for the response.

I have the same problem on my Windows 7 Home Premium  Desk Top Computer.  I get the same message when I run the repair tool for windows update.  Can anyone help me fix this.  Also when I restarted my computer hoping that would fix the problem I get this message:  Please Help me fix this, Please!
