You're very welcome.

Glad that flashing the BIOS restored the BT.

Hi:

The instructions for updating the bluetooth driver require that you uninstall the previous bluetooth software before installing the update.

See if running the system restore utility resolves the problem.

Select a restore point to a time before you updated the driver.

Then if that fixes the problem, use the hide windows update utility so the update doesn't install again.

The title of the page uses the word 'Temporarily.'  The hide is permanent unless you run the utility again and select to unhide the update.

Here is the link with instructions for use...

If you want to update the BT driver, get it from the Intel website and uninstall the current BT driver first and restart the PC before proceeding.

The Intel Bluetooth software should be in the add/remove programs section in the control panel.

I tried to use the restore points that i have made and  none work.

so uninstall and reinstall ?

i have.

*sigh*

HP Recommended

OK, if none worked, yes uninstall and use the driver from Intel directly for the model wlan card your notebook has.

also - i am still using the Windows 8.1 64bit that came with the laptop.

HP Recommended

Sorry, I missed that.

You can still hide updates in W8.1 the normal way.

HP Recommended

so do not use the driver from hp.support ?

HP Recommended

Sure you can use that one, but I figured you may as well use the latest one from Intel, so you don't get any update notifications again.

HP Recommended

the intel update is what gave me the problem. so with that, from the driver list on hp.support there are multiple drivers.

Broadcom

Intel

Mediatek

You need the Intel bluetooth driver.

This package contains the driver installation package for the Intel Bluetooth in
the supported notebook models running a supported operating system.
