HP Notebook 15-dy1023dx
My laptop was purchased Feb 2020. It came with Windows 10. I upgraded to Windows 11 quite a wile ago. The following updates were done 3 days ago: 2023-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5029263) 2023-08 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64 (KB5028948) HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.28.0.0 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Bluetooth - 1.8.1027.3000 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - USB - 3/15/2018 12:00:00 AM - 10.0.16299.31241 Realtek - LAN - Realtek USB FE Family Controller Ever since then, windows has been crashing randomly. I use wifi, but at nighttime, for some reason, my wifi has a weak signal at the far end of the house, so I use ethernet. Windows has been crashing while I'm on the internet, and it seems to occur when I'm using the ethenet connectino. So I suspect the Realtek LAN update is the issue. In the error message is: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0xc00000e5 rtux64w10.sys The date of the Realtek LAN driver is 2015. I am wondering it there is a problem because HP diagnostics seems to think I have Windows 10 and I had upgraded to Windows 11. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi @cat2-mom,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Experiencing crashes after Windows updates can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Here's a general guide to help you get started.

Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches caused by updates.

Boot into Safe Mode: Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode. This will help you determine if the issue is related to third-party software or drivers. If your computer works fine in Safe Mode, it's likely that a third-party application or driver is causing the problem.

Uninstall Recent Updates: If you suspect that the crashes started after a specific update, you can try uninstalling that update. To do this, go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update" > "View update history" > "Uninstall updates". Find the problematic update and uninstall it.

Update Drivers: Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause crashes. Update your graphics card, network adapter, and other important drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Check for Known Issues: Sometimes, Windows updates come with known issues. Check online forums, the manufacturer's website, or Microsoft's official support page to see if there are any reported problems with the specific update that caused the crashes.

Scan for Malware: Malware or viruses can cause system instability. Run a thorough scan using Windows Defender or a reputable third-party antivirus program.

Check Disk and System File Health:

  • Open the Command Prompt as an administrator.
  • Run the command sfc /scannow to scan and repair system files.
  • Run the command chkdsk /f to check and repair disk errors.

System Restore: If none of the above steps work, you can use System Restore to revert your system to a point before the problematic update was installed.

Reset Windows: If the crashes persist, you might consider resetting Windows. This will reinstall the operating system while keeping your personal files intact.

  • Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Recovery".
  • Under "Reset this PC," select "Get started" and follow the instructions.

Remember to back up your important data before attempting major changes to your system, like resetting Windows.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
