Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The product number for my laptop is G9D77UA#ABA and the model number is 15-r052nr.  The wireless card I do believe is a Ralink RT3290 SPS690020-001 and has only one antenna wire connected to it.

My WIFI and Bluetooth just stopped working sometime ago.  The card is no where to be found in Device Manager.   Does this mean that the card if definitely bad?  I've read somewhere on this forum that an update to Windows 10 at some point could have rendered it unusable which seems a little unfair to me.  But that would become a software problem, right?  If the hardware is good shouldn't it still be recognized and listed?

If it's a replacement card that I will need how will I know the operating system will work with it?  I want both WiFi and Bluetooth functionality so can anyone suggest another card or am I screwed.  Any other advice would be greatly appreciated, too.

Thank You.

Hi:

It is probably a software issue, as that wifi/Bluetooth card is known to completely disappear from the device manager, and there is no fix other than to go back to W8.1, install a USB wifi adapter or replace the Ralink card with a different model.

I recommend this model wifi card which works on W10, and both the wifi and bluetooth work with only one antenna wire.

It is also listed as supported in your notebook's service manual (chapter 3).

You should be able to find this model wifi adapter in used but tested and working condition on eBay.

Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

The card you want only comes with one antenna connection.

Wow, thanks for the immediate response, Paul.  Kind of a raw deal, it seems, for this functionality to be dropped just because the card is no longer supported?  I guess we'll never know if it was the hardware or software as to the real problem but it sounds this is happening to everybody so I have no choice apparently.  Thanks for the link.   It looks to be a pretty inexpensive replacement, anyway.   The photos show the HP part number as 752601-001.  The link you gave me is named after the SPS.  I wonder what the difference is.  But I assume were talking about the same thing.  I'll certainly be checking this out and will return here to post my results.  I'm glad I came across this site.  You've definitely given me more confidence with moving forward 😊

You're very welcome.

If you look at the picture of this card in the listing link, it shows both the HP part number and the SPS number.

Sometimes they are the same.  Sometimes the part number is different from the SPS number.

it depends on the model wifi card.

But if you see a listing with the 753077-005 SPS or part number on it, that card should work just fine.

Good news Paul.  Everything fine.  Bravo!  Way to go.  Got card in.  OS didn't load at first (black screen).  That scared me but rebooted router (and who knows what difference that made) then the laptop.  The OS, low and behold, reappeared.  Once OS fully rebooted into Windows, the new card was immediately available in Device Manager.  Wi-Fi caught on but Bluetooth didn't.  Seems I had to find the latest driver in admin mode and install it.  After that Presto!  Got Bluetooth.  You're the man.  All's well on the western front.  Thanks!
