Wireless adapter upgrade

I have a HP Notebook 15-r264dx  that does not find my 5GHz wireless network. I know it is because the wireless network adapter is a Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 bgn adapter and it only supports 2.4GHz.

Can I upgrade the wireless adapter to support 5GHz? If so which wireless adapter do you recommend?

Good Day. Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I understand that you require assistance regarding figuring out if there are compatible dual band Wi-Fi adapters for this computer. Fabulous description and superb diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.

• Did you check the service manual of this computer?

For now please look up the service manual of this computer from this link:  http://hp.care/2urM4pW  it gives a list of compatible Wi-Fi adapters. Please refer to page# 3 in this regard.

Support for the following WLAN formats:

• ● Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter
• ● Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter
• ● Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi + BT4.0 HMC Combo Adapter
• ● Realtek RT8723BE 802.11 bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi + BT4.0 HMC Combo Adapter

• Please check these links out for further assistance. It gives you an idea about how to identify 5GHz Dual Band wireless cards.
• Both have been accepted as solutions by other customers.

This computer does not have dual band wireless cards tested by HP. 

So if the 5GHz band is not listed, then the unit may not support it. However, If the unit has compatible slots that can slip in a wifi WLAN card that supports 5GHz, then this could do the trick for you. Please consult a Local best Buy or Staples technician, before venturing into it.

The other workaround would be is to get a USB wifi dongle that supports 5GHz band and plug it to one of the USB ports of the computer and then connect to the wifi router. You should be able to order one for a song. It is cost effective as well.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Thanks for the help. I bought a USB 5Ghz wireless dongle as suggested and I am happy to say I am surfing the web on 5Ghz.
