Good afternoon I did a factory reboot on my older dv6 that i haven't used in a while everything came in good but now it says there is no internet connection an that I am missing a network adapter for wireless service. Can somebody please tell me how I can install the driver that I need so that it recognizes an or finds the internet so that I can use my laptop.
By the way Merry Christmas.....an thanks in advance for any help that anyone can provide.

Hello @Lolita561

If you had HP recovery software, the wireless driver should have been installed already.

If you used a copy from Microsoft directly, it wont have the drivers.

Your specs page shows this wifi card installed...

This should be the driver...

Let me know if this does not work.

If not, we need to know the wifi card hardware ID numbers from the Device Manager.

If you have access to another computer, download the driver from that PC, then use a usb drive to move it over with.

Ok, I was able to do that, but now it says "you do not have sufficient security privileges to install hardware on this computer, contact your sits administrator or logout an log on again as administrator an try again..
I'm sitting here thinling, what...it's my laptop..

Are you logged in as an Adminitrator or did you create a standard user account also?

You have to be the Admin (if you only created the one account to log into, you're probably already logged in as the admin).

Copy/paste the download from the USB drive, to your PC.

Right click on the download and choose to Run as Administrator.

Does it help?

Ok, so yes I'm logged in as the administrator an its still telling me I dont have permission..I've logged in an out about 3 times.
I'm tired tonight...this has never happened so I'm just not sure what the problem is..I will be so glad when this driver can be installed, I had no idea it could be so much trouble just to locate the internet..an I don't have a clue how the driver was uninstalled in the first place..
I will work at this again tomorrow..
Thank you so much for taking the time out to help me this evening, I really appreciate it.

You stated you reinstalled Windows 7 correct?

What did you use to reinstall with, HP recovery media or windows 7 media from Microsoft directly?

A recovery will wipe the drive and everything there originally.

That's a good question, I am going to assume HP..all I did was hit the factory reset an let the computer Take it from there..Everything else appeared to boot up just fine but when the system restarts the error says wireless module 701, driver an or network adapter did not install properly..I believe my son may have accidentally removed it or pushed something that removed it..I hate I can't find my software cd...this has been a really good laptop...hopefully this will get resolved soon..

Lets try this, lets see if it will install from the recovery you used earlier.

For whatever reason, the driver did not install during the recovery perhaps

Go to this link and follow the instructions for Hardware driver reinstallation.
