Yet another whitelist question

My laptop was a UK (CE) purchase in 2014 from HP UK.  I would like to be able to replace the current WiFi/Bluetooth combo module (Azurewave AW-CE123H), but the spectre of the whitelist issue hangs over this.  Can anyone please tell me if this model would contain a whitelist, given that it is a CE product not regulated by the FCC?  Alternatively, if it exists, can the whitelist be disabled?  Clearly the product is long out of warranty, so such considerations are now moot.

Hi:

There is no whitelist in that model series that I know of, and since it has an Intel processor and chipset, an Intel wifi card will work.

The card you have in there was the best one available at the time, and still is a good card with a max throughput of 867 MBPS.

What do you plan on replacing it with?

I agree with your assessment of the exiting card's capabilities, which is one of the reasons I haven't finally decided to change it.  While the Wifi is perfectly OK, the Bluetooth is only 4.0, and is increasingly constrained.  I appreciate  e.g. a usb solution would address that issue easily, which is another reason why I haven't as yet decided to change the in-built combo module.  But I have been looking at the Intel AX200 which as well as Bth 5.1 also has Wifi6.  The chips are very cost effective as a single replacement.

I am also aware that the AX200 is M.2 form-factor, while the existing module is half-height mPCIe.  However a M.2. to mPCIe adapter is readily avaiable, has sufficient clearance as a replacement, and deals with the different antennae connectors.

But the first steps in deciding which way to go was of course to ask your opinion as to the whitelist issue.  Therefore I am grateful for your reply (qualified I know, but that is sufficient for me).
