Hi,

I have received wonderful support from this community in the past, but no one has responded to my recent question;  perhaps I failed at posting my issue.  I'm not good with things like this.

All I want to know is what charging cord I should buy for my Chromebook laptop.  Is it 45 watts or 65 watts?.  My current cord no longer works, and I cannot locate what the power wattage was on the dead charger's label.

Thank you,

Tiramisu2

Hi:

Enter your notebook's product number in the search window at the link below and it will provide the parts list which will include the power adapter part number and description your notebook uses.

HP PartSurfer

In the future I suggest that when you have a question, to please include the full model number or product number of the HP product you have a question about.

Then perhaps someone will be able to respond to your questions in a timely manner.

Paul,

Thank you for your reply.  I believe you might be responding to my second request for help.  In my initial message I included the numbers you mentioned, and pictures of the charger I need a replacement for.

Product name is HP Chromebook

Model Number is 14-ca04dx , and then there was 3TOJ1UA in parenthesis beside that number.

Serial Number is 5CD1374NPZ

I hope you can tell me whether this laptop needs a 45 watt or a 65 watt charging cord.  Thanks in advance for your reply,.

Paul,

Thanks for the link to the Part Surfer.  It all looked like Chinese to me, but if I read it correctly it is a 45-watt cord that I need.  Surfer gave me 2 options: part number L43407-001 or nPFC USB-C connector.  Which of these, if either, should I choose?

Thank you,

Kim

You're very welcome, Kim.

Below is the link to the parts list for your notebook:

You are correct.

Your notebook uses a 45W charger.

The first one listed, 934739-850 AC ADAPTER - Generic, 45W AC nPFC USB-PD 3PIN is no longer available and has been replaced by the second one, L43407-001 45W adapter - nPFC, USB-C connector, 1.8m long.

HP sells the second one but it is on back order and is pretty expensive at $107.28 NZD,

I don't know what your buying options are in New Zealand but I recommend you do a search by either HP part number and find a compatible aftermarket charger that references either part number.

I see some for sale on the eBay.au website if you can buy from there.

I would try and get a genuine used but tested and working one if you can.

Thank you for all the information, Paul.  Hopefully, I can get to New Zealand in the future, but currently I am living in Staunton, Virginia, USA and am forced to rely on Walmart for anything I don't order online:)

Have a great day,

You're very welcome, Kim.

Since you are currently in the USA, you can pick one up on the eBay US site:

It costs too much if you buy a new one from the HP site.

They have it in stock for $100.05, and that is in USD.

I lived in Chesapeake, VA for 3 years when I was assigned to the 5th U. S. Coast Guard District Office in Portsmouth, VA.

You have a nice day too!

Cheers,

Thank you, Paul.  You have provided this Luddite with hope for both my Chromebook and myself!  Are you still with the Coastguard?

I directed a choir for a Methodist Church in Linden, Alabama for a number of years, and each year around Veterans' Day we recognized members of our congregation, both active and retired, with an anthem that included the songs representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, etc.  The Coast Guard song portion of the anthem was always my favorite.  Whenever the military congregants heard the music representing their particular branch of service in song they were invited to stand.  It was a great, and emotional experience.

All the Best,

Kim

You're very welcome, Kim.

That is very nice that your church recognized veterans in the congregation each year during Veteran's Day.

I retired from the USCG having served for 20 years.

It was a very rewarding and enjoyable career.

Semper Paratus!

Paul
