HP ENVY TouchSmart 17t-j100 Quad Edition CTO Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)

I need a new wifi router for my HP Envy 17" TS Notebook with 802.11b/g/n/ 2x2 WLAN and Bluetooth (R) (2x2) that is compatible, easy to install and get me as much speed as possible to reach the back of a 1279 sq. ft. house.  My card is still working very well, did 3 ping tests, 4 sent, 4 returned, 0 lost.  I  have determined my lack of connectivity is my old Arris SBG6900-AC.  I'd like to keep the cost to $100 or less with easiest installation.  Thanks!

I've come across it twice now with trying to install this driver using install wizard.  I thought I exhausted you and you went to bed so, I picked repair, the driver is now listed as 18.33,17.1    Same as the install I did from a prior download.  I'm calling it a night, I can always try tomorrow and try modify, see what happens.   When I open "driver details" to view the driver detail files,  it lists it as - C:\windows\system\32\DRIVERS\Netwbw02.sys.  I hope this is ok on a 64 bit.  Device manager states it is working properly. It didn't fix the wifi connectivity, speed test still as bad as before.  I'm going to mark it as solution because everyone else got great results.  I'm back to blaming the Arris.  Can't thank you enough Paul for all your help!  I'm going to do another ping test on the wifi card tomorrow.  If you think that 32\system will be a problem please let me know and i'll do an uninstall or roll back.  Have a good night!

Hi:

I ran this one for a year or so, and it worked great, but you need a separate cable modem.

This is a router only.

Spectrum provides us with cable modems that we are not charged a monthly fee for.

I have a notebook (HP 350 G1) that is similar to yours and it has an Intel 7260 AC Wi-Fi adapter and the card worked flawlessly with it.

My son needed a new router, so I gave it to him, and he has been using it for several years now with no problem.

That gave me an excuse to buy this monster, since I have PC's with Wi-Fi 6 adapters.

If you want a combination cable modem/router, this one comes in just under $100.

Thank you for your reply.  I'll look into that one.  I had an Arris modem/router.   It's just not working right anymore.  They now have my Arris tethered to their cable modem for the tv because of the way their guys hooked it up in 2018.  He stated it was running in really poor condition and had me remove the coaxial cord.  They told me I would need a USB wireless adapter card  because my card was too old and I'd never get more than the 77mbs he tested it at and not the 300 mbs. I was paying for.   I got news for him, I took the cat-6 cable off my modem/router and went direct to my laptop.  I'm getting 297mbs.   I also tethered it back to the arris and ran a cat 6 from Arris to my laptop with speed of 280.04.  When they retire windows 10 I'll need a new pc, even though this one is in good shape and works well along with having upgraded to a 1T SSD and upgrading my ram from 8Gigs to 16.  It's not right they retired windows 8.1 before 7 but, it is what it is.  I wasn't sure how you figure what is backwards compatible with  the 802.11b/g/n.  Couldn't find any info. on it.  I appreciate your help.  Have a great day and much thanks to you!

You're very welcome.

What model Wi-Fi card does your notebook have and what operating system are you running on it?

I'll see if there are any updated Wi-Fi drivers for it.

The model of the Wi-Fi card would be found in the device manager under the Network Adapters device category.

Hi Paul,  I started  digging into this a,b,g,n stuff and I'm wifi 4 which makes me dual band also compatible with ac 😁.  I've also learned some things about the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and how  that driver can cause connectivity issues if the driver isn't updated.  Maybe that's my connectivity problem since upgrading to Win 10.  I might be blaming my Arris too prematurely.  My Wifi card is an Intel(R) Wireless-N 7260, sorry I didn't mention that earlier.  I appreciate you offering to look for upgraded wifi drivers for me.  With all your help I'll soon owe you my first born son, lol.   But, I doubt you'll want him since he's 50 yrs. old.

Thanks so much for all your help.

You're very welcome.

See if this 7260 Wi-Fi N driver from Intel works.

This was the last driver that Intel released for that card, and it should be newer than the one Windows 10 installs by default.

I have the one for the Intel 7260 AC but I can't explore the driver file to see if it also supports the 7260 Wi-Fi N card.

This is the same link that I found on Reddit.  When I bring up the download option it's not there only under the next two listings.  Went back to Reddit and someone listed this- https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19492/intel-wireless-bluetooth-driver-for-windows-1...  It appears to be the same, both are 21.10.1   Not only for 64 bit but also 32 bit for anyone needing that option.  What do you think?

Maybe load it onto a USB like someone else did in case it disappears, as they stated is happening.

Link to Reddit article in case you're interested - https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/10aet6s/where_to_get_drivers_for_intel_dual_band/  Thank you Paul.

That's the Bluetooth driver, not the Wi-Fi driver.

I was able to download the Lenovo 7260N Wi-Fi driver with no problem.

Thanks Paul, that link did download for me.  I'm on wizard install with options - repair, modify or uninstall.  Which one should I choose?   I have to tell you, you're a saint for seeing me through this!

Interesting.

I've never come across those options before.

Of the 3 I would select Modify, because you're updating the driver.
