Purchased Probook 450 G3 11/05/18 2.5 GHz processor 12GB RAM W7 SP1 64 bit . 6.1.7601 last update 12/20/18 and no updates available 01/06/19
I had an ARRIS SB6141 to hook laptop to internet and laterI learned that the modem was not disconnected on shut down, I would disable RealTek Ethernet (RJ45 CM) adapter (has to do with Probook being a business computer rathe than persona), I would restart the adapter after startup and was connected to internet.
On 12/19/18, I purchased a ARRIS SB6183 which is 16X4 rather than 8X4. Now rather than enabling the RealTek and connecting to the internet, I need to disable/enable, sometimes cold boot the modem or warm boot the laptop or both.
When I think the modem has a connection I run diagnostics to be sure. The diags go through their motions and tell me the Ethernet adapter's configuration is being adjusted and that the gateway has been fixed. Laptop iis now hook to internet.
Connection from laptop to the big bad world is hardwired on a single device connected to a single modem connected to co-ax to a point around six miles from the house.
I have spoken to the modem OEM and to the ISP about this and each makes a very good case that it is the others problem.

Actually, what I found is that the WMI was malfunctioning because of a misconfigured file. It seems that if Windows 7 is upgraded to SP1 from an ISO/DVD the file is incomplete and causes a variety of errors.
I followed the directions listed below and was able to enable the modem with no problem. At the time I didn't see the connection between the modem/adapter and an error 10. It had nothing to do with me doing something wrong with either the laptop or the modem.
I asked this question out of desperation not realizing that after I repaired the WMI error id:10 that the modem problem would be resolved

Hi
Slightly convoluted story there.
You have a https://www.amazon.com/ARRIS-SURFboard-SB6183-Docsis-Packaging/dp/B00MA5U1FW
YES/NO
Plugged in and powers up? YES/NO
It gives, either on a label and/or in the manual the Default gateway? YES/NO
You have your Ethernet Adapter with the correct settings? YES/NO
"I have spoken to the modem OEM and to the ISP about this and each makes a very good case that it is the others problem."
If you changed the Router/Modem then surely.......
If in doubt please ask.
