I am trying to find out what internet speeds I should expect to see on my HP dk0028wm. I currently pay for 300mbps download speeds through my ISP. But when I run a speed test on my laptop I am only getting around 150mbps download speeds when hardwired. What is the latest driver version should I have?

Hi:

The product specs for your notebook indicate that it comes with a gigabit ethernet adapter.

That means you should be getting all of your 300 MBPS download speeds via ethernet.

Check to see that your notebook's ethernet adapter is actually connecting at 1 GB/S.

You can do that by going to the windows control panel>network and internet>network & sharing center.

Under the view your active networks section, click on the  ethernet connection and it should be connecting at 1 GB/S.

If it isn't, then make sure you are using cat 6 ethernet cables from your cable modem to your router, and from your router to your PC.

This would be the latest ethernet driver for your notebook's realtek ethernet adapter...

Hello thanks for the quick reply!

When I am hardwired I only get about 100 mbps. 

When I connect my laptop hardwired to my gateway it shows up as 1GB.

I also installed those drivers but it doesn't look to have been updated in my device manager?

Is it the Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Adapter or the Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller?

What about the wifi driver info? What version should that be?

Sorry for all the questions.

I do not have a cat 6 cable but i am using a cat 5e.

You're very welcome.

The Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Adapter is the wireless adapter, and that has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an excellent signal using an AC router.

The Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller is the wired adapter, and since you are connecting at 1 GB/S, unfortunately I don't know why you are only getting 100 MB/S download speeds.

Any idea why when I click and download those drivers and install them, that they are not actually updating my drivers?

Unfortunately, I don't.

You should be able to manually update the drivers though.

Here is how to manually update the ethernet driver and you can do the same thing for the wifi driver.

Go to the device manager.  Click on the  Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for drivers option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp105564.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.

Then do the same thing for the Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Adapter, except you browse to C:\SWSetup\sp107515.

The wifi driver updated fine.

It shows the driver is at 2024.0.10.217.

The ethernet driver on the other hand, does not seem to match the version on your notebook's support page.

The only other suggestion I have regarding the ethernet driver would be to try the latest one directly from Realtek.

Download, unzip and run the setup application from the W10 driver file at the link below.

If it doesn't update, then it is what it is.
