I have got exactly the same problem like that one being encountered by scaterbrain. Mine is HP 635 with windows 7 ultimate, 64 bit. The Wifi quick launch button is continuously amber and cant find any wifi network. Even if the button(f12) is pressed for seconds, there is no change. Can you help me please

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

I read your post about WiFi not working and wanted to help.

Yours is a new thread, so there is no information about the other person's problem.

However, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try: HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet

Good Luck

If you are having trouble with wireless just install HP Wireless Assistant. It will activate your wireless card. Hope it helps

The centre of my problem is that wireless quick launch button

The centre of my problem is that wireless quick launch button. It is not operating as it used to be. Remains amber even if I press it once to turn it blue( an indication that wifi has turned ON). Is there any alternative of turning ON wifi, overriding that f12 button. My laptop is an HP 635 with windows 7 altimate 64 bit. I installed the Wifi, LAN and bluetooth drivers but all was fruitless.

First boot into recovery mode of the PC, you need to find the "command line" menu item.
Then, go to c:\windows\system32 and "ren Utilman.exe Utilman2.exe", then "copy cmd.exe Utilman.exe".
Reboot your PC. Then click the screen and click on the icon in the left lower corner to bring up the cmd prompt. There, just write "net user YOUR_USERNAME NEW_PASSWORD". After that, you can log in with your nenw password
