Hi - Back in January you definitely solved my problems - thank you.
Unfortunately I had to reinstall my 8600 All In One software this weekend and my 'busy' problem is back again!!!
I have changed the ink alert setting but this time it hasn't solved the problem. I assume I have to deactivate the scan to computer option but unfortunately i cant figure out how to do it.
When I go to All Programs - HP - 8600 I cant find the Scanner Actions / Manage Scan menus that you reference in your email. Is there another way to disable the scan to computer option.
Thanks. John K

Hi John,
Launch the hp software from the desktop printer icon. The hp software opens and on the main window you will see manage scan options if the printer is installed via network. You can enable and disable scan function there.

Disabling the Scan activation as described didn't work for me.
Still kept getting the busy swirl on my mouse,, no matter what window I was using.
My solution turned out to be simple. My printer power was off. After I turned it on, no more mouse swirlys now! 🙂

Unbelieveable, that was it. This has been bothering me for days. It started on vacation where it clearly could not find the printer no matter how hard it tried. Got home and it continued and..............turns out the printer was off, now it's on and all is well 🙂

Please see the message below. I cannot deactivate my HPNetworkCommunicator because I am in a different location than the printer and cannot open the Scanner Actions area and don't even have a Manage Scan to Computer heading. Is there another solution that doesn't require being on a network with the printer?

I had this irritating problem as well with an Officejet 6100e on Windows 7. Changing the ink alerts to "show ink alerts only when printing" seems to have fixed. What on earth were HP thinking of when they designed this feature. Is the ink level such a matter of life and death that it needs to be checked every 10 seconds?
