Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP laptop with Win10. I read that you're unable to turn off the Airplane mode. Therefore, you uninstalled the network drivers and they didn't reinstall post restarting the laptop. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.Not to worry, I'll do my best to help you.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • The exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • In case I have not understood your issue correctly, please reply with the complete details.

You may try to download and install the network drivers from this link. If I knew the laptop model no. then I could give you the direct link for the drivers.

Please let me know if you have tried the below steps to turn off the Airplane mode:

  • To turn airplane mode on or off, select the Network icon on the taskbar, then select Airplane mode.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to reply. Cheers! 🙂

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that your laptop is facing the same issue wherein the airplane mode does not turn off in Windows 10. Not to worry, lets work this out together and hopefully the airplane modegoes off.

If the steps from my earlier post did not help then you may try the following steps:

Here's a related post that seems to have helped others find a solution: Click here

And a few methods of solving the issue:

Method 1:

  1. Press Windows key on the keyboard
  2. Click on Settings window
  3. Go to Network icon
  4. Choose Network & Internet category.
  5. The second setting on the left column is Airplane mode.
  6. Turn it Off

Method 2: Update the drivers.

Step 1: Check for the latest driver update through Windows Updates.

  1. At the Start screen, type Windows Update.
  2. Click or tap Settings on the right side of the screen, and then select Install optional updates from the left results.
  3. When the Windows Update control panel opens, click on “Check for Updates” on the top left corner to receive a fresh list of updates.

Step 2: Follow the steps below to update the printer drivers.

  1. Press Windows + X key on the keyboard.
  2. Go to device manager.
  3. Right-click your Wireless/Wi-Fi devices.
  4. Click Update Driver Software and then follow the steps in the wizard that appears.

Restart the computer and check.

Method 3: Check in compatibility mode.

Download the  Wireless/Wi-Fi drivers from your computer manufacturer website for Windows 10, if not available.

Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

a. Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website.

b. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.

c. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation.

d. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Let me know. All the best! 🙂

thank you for trying to help but I took my laptop to an IT guy and he restored my pc to its factory settings. I lost my files but it's okay, I have back-up. However, I would like to know why such problem occured and how to prevent it. and yes, you had a clear understanding of the problem. also the icon and settings didn't work that time. I couldn't update the driver because it needs internet to update and my laptop was on airplane mode

You're welcome. 🙂

I'm glad to know that the issue has been fixed finally. I hope it stays that way. This issue occurred purely because of an operating system issue and not due to the hardware.

This doesn't happen frequently and the best thing is to keep the Windows OS updated.

Cheers!

Airplane Mode stuck with "ON:, tried every thing that I can find out.

Can't do anything suggested since no internet with Airplane Mone suck to "ON."  I have tried searching the Registry for various terms (Airplane, Bluetooth, Mode, etc.) to no avail.

It slipped my mind to tell you all, I'm posting from a Desktop with Windows 10 (no need for Airplane Mode).  I just didn't want you to think that I can get on the internet from the laptop (HP Compaq Presario v2000).
