i have a hp victus 15 gaming laptop with windows 11 installed. ive had it since late june, so its not old, and it runs really smoothly. sometimes, it randomly turns off than instantly resets, but it doesnt happen too often. the first time it happened was literally the first day i got it, but then it went away the next day and only happened sparingly since then. but a bit over an hour ago, it froze watching youtube. i had to hold down the power button and returned to watching youtube, and then it reset by itself two more times after that, and i did some research and some people said turning off auto restart in advance settings would fix it, but then 10 minutes ago it froze. my laptop isnt overheated at all either, and it never actually shuts off when im playing any games (the main things i play are sims with some mods and cc, roblox, and peggle, which arent even that intense of games for a laptop anyways). it doesnt say i have any updates either to do, so i really just dont know what to do and need help / advice. thank you to anyone who reads this and comments!!

Hi @zapukz2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing frustrating freezing and reset issues with your HP Victus 15 laptop. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem:

1. Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and ensure that your system is fully updated. Sometimes updates include critical fixes for stability.

2. Update Drivers

  • Make sure all drivers, especially graphics and chipset drivers, are up to date. You can check the HP website for the latest drivers specific to your model.

3. Disable Automatic Restart

  • As you mentioned, disabling automatic restart can help identify issues:
    • Right-click on This PC > Properties > Advanced system settings.
    • Under Startup and Recovery, uncheck Automatically restart.

4. Check for Overheating

  • Even if the laptop feels cool, it’s good to monitor temperatures using software like HWMonitor or Core Temp to ensure that there aren’t intermittent spikes.

5. Run Windows Memory Diagnostic

  • Faulty RAM can cause freezes and restarts:
    • Type Windows Memory Diagnostic in the search bar and run the tool. Choose Restart now and check for problems.

6. Check Disk for Errors

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run:
  • This will check your disk for errors and attempt to fix them (it may require a restart).

7. Perform a Clean Boot

  • To see if background programs are causing the issue:
    • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
    • Under the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services and then click Disable all.
    • Under the Startup tab, open Task Manager and disable all startup items. Restart your laptop.

8. Check Event Viewer

  • Look for any critical errors in the Event Viewer that might give clues:
    • Right-click on the Start button and select Event Viewer.
    • Look under Windows Logs > System for any warnings or errors around the time of the freezes.

9. Restore Default BIOS Settings

  • Enter the BIOS setup on boot and restore defaults. Ensure Secure Boot is enabled and check that your boot order is correct

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
