@marj0528, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Intermittent Wi-Fi issues can be frustrating, but I’ll guide you through a few steps to help resolve the problem on your HP Notebook.

Update Wireless Drivers

Outdated or corrupted drivers are a common cause of Wi-Fi instability.

Power Cycle Your Network

Sometimes, the issue lies with the router.

  • Turn off your notebook.
  • Unplug your router/modem for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Once the network is stable, turn your notebook back on and reconnect.

Disable Power Saving for Wi-Fi Adapter

Windows may turn off the adapter to save power.

  • Press Windows + X → Device Manager
  • Expand Network Adapters → Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter → Properties
  • Go to the Power Management tab → Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”

Reset Network Settings

This will clear any misconfigurations.

  • Go to SettingsNetwork & InternetStatus
  • Scroll down and click Network Reset
  • Restart your notebook after the reset.

Assign a Static IP (Optional)

If your notebook frequently disconnects, assigning a static IP can help.

  • Go to Control PanelNetwork and Sharing CenterChange adapter settings
  • Right-click your Wi-Fi connection → Properties
  • Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) → Click Properties
  • Choose Use the following IP address and enter:
    • IP address: 192.168.1.xxx (choose a number not used by other devices)
    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    • Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
    • Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8
    • Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4

Run HP Network Check

HP provides a built-in tool to diagnose network issues.

  • Open HP Support Assistant
  • Go to Troubleshooting and FixesInternet and SecurityHP Network Check

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
