@marj0528, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Intermittent Wi-Fi issues can be frustrating, but I’ll guide you through a few steps to help resolve the problem on your HP Notebook.
Update Wireless Drivers
Outdated or corrupted drivers are a common cause of Wi-Fi instability.
- Go to HP Support Assistant: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
- Run the tool and check for updates under the “Updates” tab.
- Alternatively, manually download the latest Wi-Fi driver from: Official HP® Support
Power Cycle Your Network
Sometimes, the issue lies with the router.
- Turn off your notebook.
- Unplug your router/modem for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Once the network is stable, turn your notebook back on and reconnect.
Disable Power Saving for Wi-Fi Adapter
Windows may turn off the adapter to save power.
- Press Windows + X → Device Manager
- Expand Network Adapters → Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter → Properties
- Go to the Power Management tab → Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”
Reset Network Settings
This will clear any misconfigurations.
- Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Status
- Scroll down and click Network Reset
- Restart your notebook after the reset.
Assign a Static IP (Optional)
If your notebook frequently disconnects, assigning a static IP can help.
- Go to Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Change adapter settings
- Right-click your Wi-Fi connection → Properties
- Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) → Click Properties
- Choose Use the following IP address and enter:
- IP address: 192.168.1.xxx (choose a number not used by other devices)
- Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
- Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
- Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8
- Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4
Run HP Network Check
HP provides a built-in tool to diagnose network issues.
- Open HP Support Assistant
- Go to Troubleshooting and Fixes → Internet and Security → HP Network Check
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
