Hi @oj_,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  1. Which Windows version are you using (Windows 10 or Windows 11)?
  2. What kind of internet connection is your laptop using when sharing the hotspot (Wi-Fi or Ethernet)?
  3. Do other devices show an error message when trying to connect (for example, “Can’t connect to this network”)?
  4. Has this hotspot feature worked before on this laptop?

Things you can try

1. Restart Mobile Hotspot

  • Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile hotspot
  • Turn the hotspot off, wait 10 seconds, then turn it on again

2. Change the hotspot band

  • In Mobile hotspot settings, change the Network band from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz
  • Many phones and older devices cannot connect properly to 5 GHz hotspots

3. Reset hotspot password

  • Change the network name (SSID) and password
  • Avoid special characters in the password and keep it at least 8 characters

4. Turn off Power Saving for the Wi-Fi adapter

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Network adapters
  • Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter → Properties
  • Go to Power Management
  • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

5. Update or reinstall Wi-Fi drivers

  • In Device Manager, uninstall the Wi-Fi adapter
  • Restart the laptop (Windows will reinstall the driver)
  • If possible, install the latest Wi-Fi driver from HP’s support website for your model

6. Temporarily disable VPN or firewall

  • If you’re using a VPN, turn it off and test again
  • Some third-party firewalls can block hotspot sharing

I hope this helps.
