Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased a hp notebook and shortly thereafter realized the miracast feature did not work. HP support determined that it was a 3rd party software problem and connected me with 'Smartfriend'. This 'Smartfriend' wanted $99 to correct a problem caused by  software that hp installed.

Another HP notebook connects to my Samsung TV junt fine. When connect is selected, the TV goes black for 30 sec. after which the PC screen shows 'could not connect'.  I updated the BIOS, the firmware, the wireless LAN driver and display driver all from the HP support site,   Wireless display is supported and miracast is available with HDCP.  I turned off the firewall and fiddled with all the other adjustments with no luck.

What am I missing here?  Seems to be a driver problem.

I am glad to know that you managed to resolve the issue. As you've mentioned the miracast works with both 2.4Mhz and 5Mhz this confirms its not a hardware related issue, However, the driver issue will be taken care in the next windows update.

Resolved but not solved.  An HP technician took complete control of my system for over an hour but could not get miracast to work.  His final advice was that it was caused a driver update in Win 1803 and I should wait for a new update that would correct the compatibility problem or to re-install the OS from the recovery partition and to disable driver updates.

As as a shot in the dark, I changed the wifi settings.  They were 5 MHz for both the PC and TV, when changed to 2.4 MHz, miracast worked.  When both were returned to 5 MHz, it still worked.  Doesn't  make any sense.

I this works for you, please let me know.
