My chromebook HP touch screen, has been acting weird lately. The wifi would turn off and wont let me turn it back on, this has been happening for quite a while. usually shutting my chromebook off would work and issue solved temporarily. But this is the second time its not working at all. I’ve done a couple things that i thought would work but unfortunately they did that. I have it hard resetted right now so i cant get into it until im able to get the wifi back to n somehow without having to login. Please help me.

Hi @LB1619

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing persistent Wi-Fi issues with your HP Chromebook. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

1. Check Airplane Mode

  • Make sure that Airplane mode is not enabled. You can check this by looking for the airplane icon in the system tray. If it's on, click it to turn it off.

2. Reset Network Settings

Since you mentioned you can't log in right now, this step will have to wait until you can access your Chromebook again, but here's how to do it once you're able to:

  1. Click on the time in the bottom right corner.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Go to Network and then Wi-Fi.
  4. Click on Forget Network for the Wi-Fi you're trying to connect to.
  5. Reconnect to the Wi-Fi network.

3. Try a Powerwash

If you're able to log in and the issue persists, consider performing a Powerwash (factory reset) to restore your Chromebook to its original settings. Note that this will erase all local data, so ensure that anything important is backed up.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Scroll down to Advanced and find Reset settings.
  3. Select Powerwash and follow the prompts.

4. Boot in Recovery Mode

If the issue continues and you cannot get Wi-Fi back, you may want to try booting in recovery mode:

  1. Turn off your Chromebook.
  2. Press and hold Esc + Refresh (the circular arrow) and then press the Power button.
  3. Release all keys when you see a recovery screen.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset or recover your device.

5. Check for Updates

Once you're back up and running, make sure your Chromebook is up to date:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Click on About Chrome OS.
  3. Check for updates and install any available.

6. Hardware Issues

If the Wi-Fi issue persists even after these steps, there may be a hardware issue, such as a faulty Wi-Fi card. In this case, contacting HP support or a technician may be necessary.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
