Can anyone please help urgently with my problem. My printer has been working for months with no problems. But suddenly for no apparent reason although nothing has changed now when I try to print it will not but just shows each attempt on the waiting list only. When I try troubleshooting my laptop says the printer is off-line whe.n it is not and also teells me the printer is not switched on which it is. Would be grateful if someone could help with this . ( I am elderly and not very tech. minded).
Thanks in advance
John

Hi @Johnymac,
Good Day!! Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! I understand that you require assistance regarding printing issues with the printer which says that it is offline. It will be a delight to assist you. 🙂
Spectacular understanding and commendable description of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.
- Did this happen after a windows or software update? Do you know?
- Is it a wired, wireless or USB connection between the computer and the printer?
For starters, please perform all the prescribed steps from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Deskjet-2540-All-in-One-Printer-series/5295960/model/5385253/...
First, try to fix it automatically by running the print and scan doctor utility. Otherwise please perform all the prescribed steps mentioned below for the option to “fix it manually”.
- Step 1: Set the default printer and unpause printing
- Step 2: Install Windows update KB3147458 (Windows 10 only)
- Step 3: Reset the printer and check the connection status
- Step 4: Make sure the correct port is selected
- Step 5: Create a manual connection (network connections only)
- Step 6: Add a second printer device to Windows (network connections only)
- Step 7: Reinstall the printer using HP Printer Assistant
- Step 8: Other things to try
Hope this helps. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll always be there to assist you always. 🙂
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂
