Hello, the ethernet of a usb-c adapter gives the error "The display connection may be limited" when I plug a LAN adapter into the usb-c.
I get a screen error when the adapter does not have HDMI or displayport and the Ethernet does not work. However, the rest of the ports do.
The adapter has Gigaethernet, USB-C and 2 USB 3.
I have updated drivers, disabled and repaired and I don't know what to do anymore.
I have a LAPTOP ENVY 14-eb0xxx
The adapter is an ISY IAD 1018
Translated by google, sorry im spanish
Thanks in advance

Update BIOS
- Outdated BIOS firmware can cause compatibility issues with USB-C peripherals.
- Visit HP Support and check for BIOS updates for the ENVY 14.
- Follow the provided instructions to update safely.
Alternative Solution
Consider using separate adapters:
- A dedicated USB-C to Ethernet adapter.
- A separate USB-C to HDMI or DisplayPort adapter that supports Alt Mode.
This modular approach avoids relying on one adapter for all functionalities and reduces compatibility risks.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Javi40,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error "The display connection may be limited" suggests an issue with your USB-C adapter's bandwidth or compatibility. Your ISY IAD 1018 adapter likely doesn't support Alternate Mode (Alt Mode), which is required for video output through USB-C. This could also be affecting the Ethernet connection if the laptop is struggling to allocate bandwidth or resources properly.
Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
Check USB-C Port Capabilities
- Verify if your HP ENVY 14's USB-C port supports Alt Mode for video output. Not all USB-C ports on laptops support this feature.
- You can check this in the laptop's specifications on HP's website or in the user manual.
Test with a Different Adapter
- The ISY IAD 1018 adapter may not be fully compatible with your laptop. Try using a USB-C adapter that explicitly supports:
- Alt Mode for Display Output.
- GigaEthernet.
- HDMI or DisplayPort.
Verify Network Adapter Drivers
- Even if you've updated drivers, ensure the Realtek Ethernet Controller (or similar) is properly installed.
- Open Device Manager → Network Adapters → Look for any errors or missing drivers.
Steps to Reinstall the Driver:
- Right-click on the Ethernet device in Device Manager.
- Select Uninstall device and check "Delete the driver software for this device."
- Reboot your laptop and let Windows reinstall the driver.
Alternatively, download the latest drivers from HP's support website for your model.
Reset Network Settings
- Open Windows Settings → Network & Internet → Advanced Network Settings → Network Reset.
- This will reset all network settings to their defaults.
Check USB Power Delivery (PD)
- The adapter might require more power than the USB-C port can provide. If you're not using the USB-C port for charging simultaneously, it might not be delivering enough power for all functionalities (e.g., Ethernet and USB simultaneously).
- Try connecting the adapter to a powered USB-C hub or directly to the laptop's charging USB-C port.
