My WIFI on my laptop is MUCH slower than my IPAD or any other wirless device I have.
I have the realtek rtl8723be 802.11 bgn. With my IPAD or phone I get download speed of around 75mbps. The laptop is getting 6 mbps. This is very frustrating to say the least. Any ideas on settings etc that are keeping the laptop from getting the speeds of other devices?

Your notebook has cheaper (around 10 dollars cheaper) and slower wifi card. I don't know your machine but in many cases you can't change that card. Please try

@Wndsurfor, I have the same issue. Before buying an external network adapter try:
1) to disable the bluetooth if it's not necessary to you. I know, it's a workaround but that made the trick fot me
2) to ubdate the network driver to the last release (2023.66.1104.2017 Rev.A) available in the HP support center. Among the fixes there is "Improves Wi-Fi/BT coexist function.". Just for your information it does nothing in my case
Please let us know

Thanks for the info. After the software update and shutting down the bluetooth, I did get some modest improvment. Still not up to the speed of the other devices in the house. Might just have to hard wire this thing, as it sits near the router most the time.

A wired connection would be the best, of course, but, as a last chance, have a look if the other devices have better performances because they use a 5ghz rather than a 2.4ghz. If that's the case with something around 20-25 $/€ you can replace the realtek network card (it only works in 2.4ghz) with a compatible dual band card
