Hi @jacques19597,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If your HP 17.3 Inch Laptop PC 17-Cp0000 (2Q7W8AV) is experiencing slow connection issues with the Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Adapter, here are some steps you can follow to improve the performance:
1. Update Wi-Fi Drivers:
- Download the latest drivers from the HP support website or Realtek’s official website.
- Install the drivers by following the instructions provided.
2. Check for Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
- Install any available updates as they might include performance improvements or bug fixes for your network adapter.
3. Adjust Wi-Fi Adapter Settings:
- Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting it from the list.
- Expand the Network adapters section and right-click on the Realtek RTL8821CE adapter.
- Select Properties > Advanced tab.
- Adjust the following settings for better performance:
- 802.11n/ac Wireless Mode: Ensure it is set to the highest available mode.
- Channel Width for 2.4GHz/5GHz: Set to Auto or the highest option.
- Roaming Aggressiveness: Set to Medium or High.
4. Optimize Wi-Fi Channel:
- Use a Wi-Fi analyzer tool to identify the least crowded channel and set your router to use that channel.
- Access your router’s settings by typing its IP address into a web browser and log in with your credentials. Change the channel settings under the wireless settings section.
5. Ensure Proper Placement of Router:
- Place your router in a central location, free from obstructions and away from other electronic devices that may cause interference.
- Ensure your laptop is within an optimal range from the router.
6. Disable Power Saving Features:
- Open Device Manager, expand the Network adapters section, right-click on the Realtek RTL8821CE adapter, and select Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
7. Reset Network Settings:
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
- Scroll down and click on Network reset.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reset network settings. Note that this will remove all saved networks and you will need to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.
8. Update Router Firmware:
- Check the manufacturer’s website for any available firmware updates for your router and follow the instructions to update it.
9. Check for Interference:
- Ensure there are no physical obstructions (walls, furniture) or electronic devices (microwaves, cordless phones) interfering with the Wi-Fi signal.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be worth considering upgrading your Wi-Fi adapter to a more robust model, or using a USB Wi-Fi adapter to bypass potential issues with the internal adapter.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
