HP Envy x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-fc0000 (8Z8L9AV)

The WiFi connection on my HP Envy X360 PC 14-fc0000 drops in and out up to 3-4 times in a minute or two.  It uses windows 11.  All checks say everything is fine.  Is there anything I can check/do to help solve this?

Hi @AEaston1

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that the Wi-Fi connection on your HP ENVY x360 14-fc0000 is frequently dropping and reconnecting, even though the available diagnostics indicate that everything is working correctly. I would be happy to help troubleshoot this further.

Restart the network.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Unplug the Wi-Fi router/modem from power.
  • Wait about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the router/modem back in and wait until the internet connection is fully restored.
  • Turn on the laptop and test the Wi-Fi connection.

Check whether the issue is specific to the laptop

  • Connect another device, such as a phone, to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Check whether the other device also disconnects.
  • If possible, connect the HP laptop to a different Wi-Fi network or a mobile hotspot.
  • If the laptop works normally on another network, the issue may be related to the original router/network.

Forget and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network

  • Go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks.
  • Select your Wi-Fi network and click Forget.
  • Restart the laptop.
  • Go back to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi.
  • Select the network, enter the Wi-Fi password, and reconnect.

Check the Wi-Fi adapter in Device Manager

  • Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Network adapters.
  • Locate the wireless/Wi-Fi adapter.
  • Right-click it and select Properties.
  • Under the General tab, check whether Windows reports any error.
  • If there is no error, select the Power Management tab, if available.
  • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
  • Click OK and restart the laptop.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I had tried all of your suggestions already, including reinstalling the WIFI driver, but had not tried forgetting the WiFi and resetting it.  Unfortunately that did not work and the problem persists.  The drop out time is slightly variable from a few times a minute to a couple of minutes between each drop out.  Even during typping this I have had a drop out.  This feels like a laptop issue but I would welcome any suggestions.

Hi @AEaston1

Thank you for responding.

I understand that the Wi-Fi issue is still not resolved despite trying the previous troubleshooting steps. Since the connection is dropping several times within a few minutes, we should narrow down whether this is related to Windows, the wireless adapter, or the network environment.

Check for Printer Updates

  • On the printer’s control panel: Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update Printer.
  • Or use the HP Smart app → Advanced Settings → Firmware Update.
  • Install updates and restart the printer.

Router Configuration

  • Ensure your printer connects to the 2.4 GHz band (HP printers often don’t support 5 GHz).
  • If your router broadcasts separate SSIDs for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, select the 2.4 GHz one.
  • Check firewall/security settings to ensure the printer is allowed to connect.
  • If WPA3 security is enabled, switch to WPA2 — many printers don’t support WPA3.

Use HP App

  • Install the HP App on your PC or mobile device.
  • Open the app and select Add Printer.
  • Follow the guided steps to connect the printer to your new Wi‑Fi network.

Reset Network Settings

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Network Setup → Restore Network Settings.
  • This clears old Wi‑Fi details.
  • Run the Wireless Setup Wizard again to connect fresh.

Have a good day.

This is not a printer problem.  The laptop itself is dropping out of the WiFi connection.  My phone and iPad make stable connections with the router (and I have had the broadband supplier check both the WiFi and the router three times with both showing no problems).  The only issue I have is with the laptop as I indicated in my initial post.
