Hello,
I have Hp spectre x360 notebook running Windows 10 pro. I want to wake this laptop from my router by sending the magic packets. I've enabled "Wake on Magic Packet" on the Wirelss network adapter but it didn't work. Both Bios and Wireless lan adapter drivers are up to date.
I have similar setup on my desktop that is connected to the router via cable and it works great. Please help !
Thanks you

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have an HP Spectre x360 laptop with Win10 installed and you would like to wake up the laptop by using the "Wake on Magic Packet" option. You have tried this option and it did not work. The BIOS and the wireless drivers are both up to date. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
I would like to know the exact model no. of your HP Spectre x360 laptop. This link will help you to find the exact model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l.
Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- You’ll typically find this setting in a computer’s BIOS. Enter the BIOS and ensure the Wake-On-LAN option is enabled.
-
If you don’t see this option in your BIOS, check the computer or motherboard’s manual to see if it supports Wake-on-LAN. The computer may not support Wake-on-LAN or WoL may always be enabled with no related options in the BIOS.
- You may also have to enable this option from within Windows, whether there’s a WoL option in your BIOS or not. Open the Windows Device Manager, locate your network device in the list, right-click it, and select Properties. Click the Advanced tab, locate “Wake on magic packet” in the list, and enable it.
- Login to your windows 10 or windows 8.1 computer and open Device Manager by pressing Win + X and click Device Manager.
- In Device Manager, expand Network Adapters section and locate yor network adapter, right click it and choose properties. It will display the network adapter’s properties.
- In the Network Adapter’s properties, go to Advanced tab and locate the network adapter’s option called Wake on Magic Packet. Set it to Enabled as shown below.
- Go to the Power Management tab, and check the settings, Allow this device to wake the computer and Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer must be checked as shown below.
- Now, Wake-on-LAN feature should be working on your Windows 10
If the issue persists then you may try the below steps:
Fast Startup which is a hybrid state first introduced in Windows 8 can interfere with Wake On LAN. To disable it, press Windows key + X then Power Options.
Click Choose what the power buttons do then click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
Scroll down to Shutdown settings and uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended) then click Save changes.
Let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂
