Hello. I've bought used laptop hp Pavilion 15-n095er. Wifi adapter isn't detected by UEFI tests. It is written that there is no wifi adapter after UEFI device test "wifi..." . The wifi indicator is always red colored. There is no wifi adapter in device manager in Windows 8. I've been apgraded bios to the last version F.71, but nothing has been changed after that. The wifi chip is tested in another laptop and it is working! The model of wifi chip is the same as discribed under my hp: Ralink RT3290. the contacts on motherboard for wifi chip look clean (only one seems to be a liitle dirty) I've tried to clean it with a toothbrush and alcohol. Please help me, what else can I try to do to solve this problem?

Hi @Sasha115,
Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding the wireless adapter not getting detected or working. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you correctly, I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you try to check with a different wireless adapter on this computer?
For now please try these steps:
- It looks like the wireless adapter works with a different computer but on this computer, it is not getting detected in UEFI or device manager.
- This boils down to the fact that the computer’s wireless adapter slot is faulty.
A great workaround would be is to buy a USB wireless dongle from Best Buy or Staples or from Amazon or e-bay and plug it to one of the USB ports of the computer. Then connect it to the router to go online. It is very economical and cost-effective and can be ordered for a song.
It will work great and will do the job for you. This will be your best course of action.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

Hi
Any chance it is under any sort of Guarantee?
If it is not in the hidden area, then it may not 'exist'.
Typing a few commands may show it, but I suspect it is either the wrong one, or faulty.
getmac netsh wlan show interfaces netsh wlan show drivers systeminfo msinfo32 ipconfig -all

Hi
So if the WiFi card exists physically and is not seen by the BIOS, it works in other machines, then the Motherboard is suspect and a replacement system board is suggested.
So is it under any kind of Warranty or Guarantee?
For WiFI a plug in dongle affair may be the way.
