elitebook 8540p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Last week my wifi quit working on my elitebook 8540p.  Windows 10 64 bit intel centrino wifi adapter.

The system worked fine for over a year, but last week the wifi lite/button turned orange (off) and won't turn blue (on).  Tried turning wifi back on through windows 10, but the software switch doesn't stay in the on position.  The adapter shows a red 'x' in the network section of the control panel and won't connect.

Ordered a replacement centrino card, and installed it but the problem persists.  Have tried updating the drivers, disabling and re-enabling the centrino in the device manager, and performed a hard restart (removed battery, held power switch).

Is there a problem with the on / off switch itself?  Made no significant changes to the computer in any way that I can see would cause this problem.

I need the wifi to function again.  Please advise

Tony

Hi

Mobile screen somewhat overwhelmed.

You have a virtual adapter, could that be a problem?
HP Recommended
Also your WiFi is numbered 4, so do the previous numbers exist even as virtual connections and cause the problem?
HP Recommended

I've disabled, re-enabled, unistalled, re-installed, updated drivers, and physically replaced the module with a new one.  I don't know why it's labelled itself '4'.

As to the vitual connection, I installed VM ware and created a virtual computer over a year ago, and never used it since.  It hasn't been a problem in all this time.

Is there any other way to turn the wifi on besides the button/light above the keyboard?  I can't turn it on using the software switch in windows settings either.

Hi

Only other place is the BIOS.

ESC and I think F1 to see the info screen, with the mainboard, Born On Date and at the bottom is the FCC ID of my WiFi. FCC is US of A thingy, but helpful nonetheless..

The WiFi button has a driver on mine, and it's probable you have one two - too. But that is a longshot.

Looked through the bios and saw nothing.  Mine pulls up with the ESC key.  More graphical, not the usual blue screen white text kind of bios.
